Illustration of the Methods and Theories in the Routine “Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu)”
In the teaching of Health Qigong, some students occasionally said that the movements of the prior three routines of Health Qigong? Yi Jin Jing (i.e. the Routine 1, Routine 2 and Routine 3 of Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle) were very simple, and it was nothing to learn. Health Qigong is the preparation exercise before we practice Tai Chi. However, after they listened to my explanation, their learning attitude have change. For this phenomenon, it is quite necessary to reinforce the explanation of the movement essentials, methods and principles of Health Qigong. Therefore, this article intends to describe the methods and theories in the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) in detail as follows:
Arrangement principles
The Sanskrit name of Wei Tuo is Veda. He is also known as "Wei Tuo Tian" The image of Wei Tuo Tian is mostly a majestic general in armor. He is tall, strong, majestic, and brave, having a childlike face and holding a pestle butted against the ground or putting both palms together with the pestle placed between elbows. Therefore it is called Vajra-pestle. Therefore it is called Vajra-pestle. In traditional Chinese and Indian cultures, Wei Tuo holding the Bao Chu is a symbol of resolute and loyal characters. The three routines named Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) refer to the three positions that Wei Tuo holding the pestle. There are close relationship between these three routines, which are the foundation of the methods of Yi Jin Jing, as well as the introduction to practice qi. At the start, the first routine uses the principles of concentration, calming heart and breath slowly, combining with the physiology of the body, meridians and Qi, using very reasonable, which is very reasonable. For example, the movements, such as the fingers linking to the heart, putting palms together, and ten fingers connected, as well as mind concentration on palms and Tan tien, can calm the spirit and mind, and play the role of presence of mind and achieve the balance of Qi movement of the body. It is the methods gist advocated by the ancients, i.e. "If people concentrate and keep the mind peaceful, Qi will return back to the body". At the same time, put both palms together in front of chest to the height of "Tanzhong acupoint", which allows that the "position" of lung is moderate, and the opening and closing and breathing all meet the standards. It will facilitate to the regulation of the lung. The methods have directly mastered the key of "the lung governing Qi and the breath", controlled the overall hub of the circulation of Qi, so as to achieve the requirements of "regulating the breath" and "calming the mind". As long as the Qi movement is calm, then the mind will naturally clear, so as to achieve the unity of three regulations, which also reflects the profound meaning in the ancient formulas of Yi Jin Jing, i.e. "calming the breath and keeping concentration, the heart being clear and the appearance being respectful". The movements in the second routine, such as the toes gripping the ground (especially with the strength of feet and the inside of the legs), opening palm vertically with the middle finger, separating palms outward, the strength going to the palm roots, can effectively stimulate the function of the internal organs related to the three yin meridians of foot and three yin meridians of hand, to improve the circulation of Qi and blood, smooth the meridians and strengthen the internal organs. The movements in the third routine, such as lifting the heels and feet, using the strength of the outside of legs, as well as lifting anus and other movements, can effectively stimulate the three yang channels of foot, Du channel and so on, which plays an important role in improving Yang Qi of the body and the blood circulation of the whole body. The movements of these three routines start from the concentration, calming heart and breath slowly, then guide the circulation of Qi movement of the body, which can enhance the movement function of the internal organs. It is very important in practicing Health Qigong step by step. Therefore, the choreography of the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) is very comprehensive, rational and scientific.
The law to regulate the body
Yin and Yang is a simple theory of the unity of opposites in ancient China, belonging to ancient Chinese materialism and dialectics category. The original meaning of Yin and Yang was very simple, which referred to the sunlight shining on the objects. Yang meant things being toward the sun and Yin meant the shade without sunshine. Later, the idea was amplified to the cold and warm of the climate, the up and down, left and right, inside and outside of the orientation, as well as the restlessness and quiet of the movement state. When analyzing the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) with the principle of Yin and Yang, it can be found that there is the dynamic state in the static state in every movement, and the movement law of Yin and Yang is embodied in each routine. For instance, the movements of the first routine start with the shoulder blades lifting backward and upward, and then the shoulders and arms going backward and downward to draw the semi-circular. Then the strength come to the waist, lifting the arms forward and upward leading with the thumb, the distance between the wrists is as wide as the shoulders, to the height of the shoulder. Both palms are opposite with forward fingers. Then both elbows going down and drawing back the hands, but the previous onward and upward force is kept, which forms yin and yang relationship between the forces of the elbows. Palms together in front of chest, palm roots are in 10 cm in front of the Tanzhong acupoint. The fingertips form the angle of 30 degrees horizontally, which is like a wooden stick putting between the elbows. The axilla should be empty. Look forward and downward 1.5 to 2 meters away through the tips of middle fingers. The movements of this routine have changed from the dynamic state to the static state. The movement essentials of the second routine is that pay attention to the shoulders downward while the elbows raising, so as to form the yin and yang movement; at the same time, the center of gravity is moved forward slightly. Along with palms stretching forward, the body lean backward, so as to form the yin and yang movement; at the same time, the center of gravity is moved forward slightly. When the left and right arms separate apart, the center of gravity is slowly moved forward. Then toes griping the ground, open palm vertically leading with the middle fingers, the strength of palms increase gradually (the fluctuation law of yin and yang), which is like two mountains pushing each other with strength. When opening palms vertically, the toes grip the ground, breathing naturally and calming the mind. As the literature describes, it is a dynamic and static state, "the toes gripping ground, palms up, calming the mind and breathing slowly". Relaxing wrist in the third routine is another course of the yin and yang movement (It is slow and gradual course). The requirements are that shoulders and elbows going downward, lifting the elbows to make a semicircle, then slowly relaxing the shoulders and elbows, making arms straight and forward, and finally bending in front of the chest. It sufficiently reflects the law of yin and yang, as well as growth and decline. Then palms revolve inward at the same time, going to below the earlobe, palms up with the places of Hukou being opposite. When palms up to the head, the toes grip the ground, lifting the heels, while slightly drawing back the lower jaw, tongue touching the palate, teeth clenching, looking forward and downward; lifting both palms with strength, the places of Hukou being opposite, arms straight. Step on the ground with the half soles and lifting the palms upward with strength, which forms the yin and yang symmetric motions, so that the whole body is stretched. At the same time, lifting both hands is also a course of waxing and waning of yin-yang. The strength should be small at the start and gradually increased. In addition, keeping both palms upward means Yang, looking forward and down is Yin, which have also formed up the yin and yang symmetrical relationship. It is conducive to the balance of the body.
The methods to regulate the heart
Wei Tuo Xian Chu practicing Potential basic requirements   relaxation in essence God, consciousness calm conditions, in order to regulate the body mainly through induced body consciousness and become transferred with the movement of the variation, the operation of gas to Tao Yin, go with the shape achieved intention, intention gas attendant, played strong body strengthen body intention. For example, in the first routine, imagine that lifting both scar upward and backward first, and then going downward, so as to drive the arms and shoulders to draw the semi-circular backward and downward. Then the strength come to the waist, lifting the arms forward and upward to shoulder level through stretching the fingers forward and upward, followed with the motility of the waist. Then both elbows going downward, keeping the neck upright and drawing back the palms, putting the palms together in front of chest at the place where 10 cm away from Tanzhong acupoint (the midpoint of the two nipples is also known as the middle Tan tien, which is the origin of pectoral qi), along with mind concentration on palms and the middle Tan tien. In the second routine, imagine that the part of "Jianjing acupoint" going downward, driving the elbows to lift outward and automatically. Stretch both hands upward leading with the middle fingers, separate left and right along the horizon to the shoulders in a straight line. So it is open-minded. Then imagine that Qi rises from the thumb of feet, going up through the inside of legs, joining together in the crotch and then going to the shoulder blades along the Du meridian, then to the shoulders, elbows, hands. Open palm vertically leading with the middle fingers. The fingers close inward while the palms support outward, which is like two mountains pushing each other to the left and right. In the third routine, imagine with the movement essentials. Pay attention to both palms through “Tianmen” on the top of the head, and imagine that both palms reach the highest position in the sky. At the same time, the toes stepping on the ground to stretch the muscles of the body and promote the circulations of Qi and blood of the whole body, thus achieving the purpose of strengthening the body.
With the above activities of moving leading by ideas (regulating the heart), It allows the students to master the methods and technology essentials, and easily experience the feelings of being relaxed and nature, and stretching the tendons, to improve the learning interests and exercise effects. On the other hand, the main purpose of the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) is to regulate the body, heart and breath, so as to shape the body, smooth the meridians, keep the mind quiet and strengthen the internal organs, therefore the fixed postures should not be purposeful, doing them in the intentional and unintentional state.
The guidelines to regulate the breath
The breathing technique of the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) takes the nature and comfortable breathing as the standard. Do not excessively emphasis on breathing. In the practice, keep the nature, soft and smooth breath and breathe without delay, which contributes to relax the mind and body, calm the mind, as well as the coordinate movement of the body. However, the skilled exerciser should take the initiative to cooperate the movements and ideas, as well as the natural breath. For example, in the third routine of Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu), inhale naturally while lifting both palms and exhale naturally while falling both palms.
In summary, it can be seen that the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) is a very comprehensive, rational and scientific combination. Learning the routine Wei Tuo Presenting the Pestle (Wei Tuo Xian Chu) can not only recognize the movement principles and methods of Yi Jin Jing, but also experience the deep connotation and essence of Chinese traditional culture. To this end, explaining the above methods and theories in detail can undoubtedly increase the confidence and learning motility of students in teaching the movements. Which strengthen students ' interest in learning, improve instruct learning effects and methods exercise effect has important intention righteousness.
