Section I Sourcing of Method

Liu Zi Jue was demonstrated by Tao Hongjing of Southern and Northern Dynasties and further developed and supplemented by a monk in Sui Dynasty named Jiao Zhi. Both silence and sound were adopted and body movement was added after Ming Dynasty. A national research group was established to finalize it through research and experiments. Six words are corresponding to vital organs, and health care is made in order with intergeneration. The pronunciation and mouth shape varies; new learners will make sound while the skilled is often silent. Breathing in mouth and noise should accord with movement and reverse breathing should balance the air.

Section II Features of Method

Sounding and mouth shape should be up to standard, expiration and inspiration and Daoyin should combine internally and externally. Soothing and flexibility should integrate motion with stillness, be easy to learn and safe.

Section III Key Principles of Learning

Check mouth shape and feel the breath, reside willing in breath and shape in willing, enforce slightly instead of powerfully, reverse breathing gently and evenly. Movement should be relaxed and soothing and advanced step by step.

Section IV Note of Movement

Ready position: stand parallel with feet at shoulder breadth, slightly bend knees and lean forward, drop shoulders and keep body upright, touch upper jaw with tongue and look down forward.

Movement gist: breathe with nose naturally, relax body and calm down with a smile

Common error: too curved or straightened knees, chin up, chest out and far sighted.

Correction: relax knees with shoulders slightly included, hold chin and look down forward.

Role: be even tempered with body relaxed, communicate Ren and Du Channels to stimulate Qi and blood circulation, tonify Qi, soothe the nerves and eliminate tiredness, level off anxiety.

Starting position: cross fingers to bosom slowly, invert inside to slowly press down, slightly crouch to sit down with palms turned outside, gradually pull shoulders forward into a circle. Turn the outward turning palms in and gather at navel, cross hands to cover navel gently, rest quietly and focus on Dantian.

Movement gist: slowly hold hands high with palms upward and push elbows forward, inhale to extend shoulders and hold bosom back, pull palms forward and sit back, exhale to reserve space under armpits and extend elbows.

Common error: elbows backwards when holding hands high with palms upward, chin up and chest out when pulling forward, hold navel tightly while resting, hold elbows tightly after covering navel.

Correction: keep elbows forward when holding hand high with palms upward, hold bosom back when extending shoulders and chest, sit back when pulling palms forward, and extend elbows outward while reserving space under armpits.

Role: push up, press down, turn over and hold back, invigorate and regulate Qi and blood circulation, soften joints in rhythm, improve waist and knees with better function.
