Explanation on Cultural Connotation of Old Horse Is Stabled(Lao Ji Fu Li)

Old Horse Is Stabled(Lao Ji Fu Li)is the third step of Health Qigong • Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong Shi Er Fa. The idiom comes from the poetry anthology “Bu Chu Xia Men Xing” of Cao Cao, a politician and strategist in the Three Kingdoms period. It said that "An old steed in the stable still aspires to gallop a thousand li. A noble-hearted man retains his high aspirations even in old age." So the idiom is often used as a metaphor of ambitious old people by later generations.

Cao Cao has not enjoy himself to the full until here, and continued to express his ideas, "Human longevity is not entirely predestined. Health maintenance and keeping relaxed and happy can prolong life".

This verse has deeply revealed the harmonious relationship between health and career, and expressed a kind of mighty passion and entrepreneurial spirit. Where does the spirit come from? The experiences of countless celebrities tell us that it comes from the love of life and the pursuit of career.

There are a lot of these kinds of healthy and long-lived people since ancient times, who have adhered to scientific methods of keeping fit. Here I will just take a few well-known senior citizens as example. General Sun Yi, who lives beyond the age of hundred, has said, "Selfless dedication and enjoy a long life". The ninety-nine years old famous writer Bing Xin said, "The beauty of life is to give." Another ninety-nine years old respected person Mr. Liu Jianzhang said, "Being indifferent to fame and wealth, and serve the people wholeheartedly".

What is their spirit? It is the spirit of devotion proposed by Mr. Lu Xun, namely "modesty combined with the spirit of willingly serving the young and weak", which is the spirit of "the winged steed" and the reflection of Chinese virtues. In summary, the affectionate words of these senior citizens have truly reflected the spirit of "an old steed in the stable still aspires to gallop a thousand li", and the positive and firm longevity belief.

It would be superfluous to dwell on the matter anymore. The third step of Health Qigong • Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong Shi Er Fa is named after Old Horse Is Stabled(Lao Ji Fu Li), because of the epic inspiring spirits of the older generation.

Let us come back to our main story. From the perspective of movement structure of this step, wrist flexion, hooked hand, folding wrists together, rolling fingers, finger flicking and other movements can produce benign stimulation on Taiyuan point and Shaoshang point of Lung Meridian of Hand-taiyin, Daling point and Zhongchong point of pericardium meridian, Shenmen point and Shaochong point of heart meridian, Hegu point and Shangyang point of the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-yangming, Yangchi point and Guanchong point of triple energizer meridian, as well as Wangu point and Shaoze point of the Small intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang. Thus, to some extent, it can strengthen heart, invigorate lung, regulate triple energizers and lubricate the intestines.

The repeated horse stances and toes scratching in this step are conductive to clear the liver, spleen, kidney, three yin channels of foot and stomach, gallbladder, urinary and three yin meridians of foot. Thus, to some extent, it can cultivate liver and gallbladder, warm stomach and invigorate spleen, enrich yin and nourish kidney.

In addition, according to the distribution of organs and meridians in the abdomen, the area above the umbilicus belongs to stomach, the lower abdomen belongs to Three Yin Channels of Foot, peripheral umbilicus belongs to large intestine, the area below the umbilicus belongs to small intestine, and the lateral region of abdomen belongs to gallbladder ("Chinese Acupuncture Medicine"). Combining with soft, even, deep, and long abdominal breathing, the exercise "Old Horse Is Stabled(Lao Ji Fu Li)" can effectively massage various organs and meridians, and surely produce a functional role on the above-mentioned organs, achieving to keep fit and anti-aging.
