Teaching Methods of Health Qigong ﹒Da Wu---Shaking Body Position(Ⅱ)

II. Essentials and knack of the movement

1.Through internal extending and external stretching, and internal twisting and external rotating, the action guides the middle jiao, coordinating with tapping and shaking. It emphasizes on regulating the spleen and stomach, which are in the middle jiao, the “root” of the body, and the origin of acquired constitution, the source of qi and blood, having the function of transporting and transforming food and water fluid, while this function mainly relies on the role of spleen, “spleen qi masters the lifting”, “spleen is based on the lifting health”. Spleen qi transports the essence of food to heart and lung, and nourish the whole baby with qi and blood transformed through the function of heart and lung. Therefore, it is also called “spleen masters the lifting of clear”, “clear” means the food, essence and other nutrients. As the spleen is the source of qi and blood, qi can govern blood, if the governing function of qi is safe and sound, the blood will not overflow, therefore, spleen has the function of governing blood. Spleen and stomach jointly comprise each other; spleen qi masters the lifting, stomach qi masters dropping. Stomach sums by the dropping, uses by the general. Spleen and stomach forms the hub of lifting and dropping qi movement. The action makes use of the physiological function characteristics of spleen and stomach, stretching up and down middle jiao, and twisting left and right middle jiao, coordinating with “shaking” method to nurse the spleen and stomach. Therefore, it is required to coordinate the stretching and shaking, twisting and shaking, mutually promoting its guiding role.

2.Grip and lifting should coordinate with feet trampling the “ground”, force on the wrist joints should coordinate with looking the bottom front, and they are the essentials of internal extending and external stretching middle jiao. If you simply care about lifting upward without care of the feet, then the feet will be “rootless”, resulting in surplus lifting qi and insufficient dropping qi. Therefore, while lifting upward, the feet should have the feeling of “three chi into the ground like a pile, secure like standing on one foot as the cock does”. When the force on the wrist joints is lifted to the setting position, the will should be focused on the wrist. Will is the commander of qi, while qi is the commander of blood. When the will comes, qi comes, and then the blood comes. Therefore, when the force on the wrist joints is lifted on the setting position, it should coordinate with looking at the bottom front. Eyes are the windows of the soul, where the eyes stare, the heart will come, and then the will follows, accompanying by qi. Up and down is mutual roots, lifting and dropping is the reason and should be moderate, internal guiding and external leading in order to achieve the effect of regulating spleen and stomach.

On this basis, with further training, it should be focused on the details of essentials. In the squat, you should loose hips and bend knees, squat with steady feet, relax the Huantiao point and stretch it to Weizhong point, which is relaxed and stretched to coordinate with Yongquan point, naturally finish the squat action. When your arms hold down, you should loose the shoulders, drop elbow, fall the wrist and hold down, relax the Jianjing point and stretch to Quze point, which should be relaxed and stretched to coordinate with Laogong point, making the arms naturally fall down. When griping and adduction, using Laogong point to “look for” lower pubic region, making qi naturally adduct and restrain in order to guide qi and return to the origin. When the arms turn inside to the back of the fist, you should start from the shoulder, driving elbow and wrist to turn inside section by section. While lifting it, you should start from shoulder, driving the elbow and wrist to lift section by section. The arms lifting should stretch to coordinate with the body with the center of middle jiao. Thus the internal guiding and external leading, internal extending and external stretching can achieve the effect of combination of interior and exterior.

3.Both sides of the arms dropping and tapping the gallbladder meridian should coordinate with the leg falling of lifting knees. Using the method of “shaking”, it can lift qi of shaoyang and dredge the stomach qi. When the arms falls down, the Jianjing point should relax and fall down first, then drive the free falling of elbow and wrist, do not take force deliberately. During the falling process, arms should turn inside, tapping the gallbladder meridian of foot shaoyang from Hegu point of large intestine channel of hand yangming. In tapping, do not take force deliberately, with the inertia of arm falling, tap it naturally. After the tapping, take the advantage of the reaction force of tapping to flick away. The knee height varies with each individual and can not be forced. Swing legs downward and make traction should relax at your convenience. While swinging down, loosing hips and sending the knees, the keys is guiding the ankle, the force originates from movement inertia. While swinging legs and tapping, the action should be slow and light. Through the inertia of body and four limbs and the guidance of self-gravity traction, you stretch the joints to make the hip joints, knees joints and ankle joints to be pulled, so as to relieve the damage caused by long-term excessive weight, having effective role in the health care and recovery of the joints of lower limbs.

4.Tapping Qihai point and sacrum should coordinate with twisting left and right middle jiao, surge the internal qi and circulate middle jiao, strengthening the spleen and stomach. While tapping and squatting, you should loose the sacrum and bend the knees to squat to about 30 degree. Do not over squatting for fear of tension of waist and abdomen. While tapping, along with loosing sacrum and squatting, the body should turn upright, loose Jianjing, drop elbow, fall wrist, tap Qihai and sacrum with the force from inertia of free falling, so as to “tap hill and shake sea” and circulate “intestinal tract”. If you take force to make excessive tap, the abdominal muscle will be in tension, with increasing strain, then the qi movement of abdomen will be extended but not restrained. It should be avoided in practicing.
